Garmin® drives bigger features in latest automotive devices

Newest additions to Garmin’s automotive line delivers upgrades and smaller form factors

Singapore, 31 May 2017 – Garmin, a market leader in GPS navigation, today continues its expertise with the launch of the compact EDR 530 and EDR 560 and Garmin Drive 51 to equip drivers with a unified and safe driving experience.

Garmin Drive 51 

The EDR 530 and EDR 560 – new standalone driving recorders with a uniquely small and unobtrusive hardware design and new advanced driver awareness alerts. The Garmin EDR 530 and EDR 560 offer high-quality eyewitness recording with automatic incident detection (G-sensor) to save footage on impact, while also adding GPS capabilities for detailed time and location data. Advanced driver alerts such as forward collision and lane departure warnings¹ are integrated in both new GDR models to help prevent drivers from either driving too close to the vehicle ahead or drifting off-road. Now with the inclusion of new voice controls², drivers can start and stop audio recordings and more through voice commands to help keep their hands on the wheel and focused on the drive.

Excellent video capture

The GDR 560 provides high quality video captured in 1440p, 1080p, or 720p with a 3.7 megapixel camera while the GDR 530 captures 1080p or 720p with a 2.1 megapixel camera. Both models project excellent fields of view with a 2.0-inch LCD display screen. The addition of Sensory TrulyHandsfree™ voice control² allows users to speak straightforward commands to the dash cam, such as “OK Garmin, save video,” and “OK Garmin, take a picture,” or even “OK Garmin, start Travelapse™,” to activate the video capture feature that compresses hours of driving footage into minutes of highlights.

Navigation warnings to keep drivers alert on the roads

Helping drivers stay alert while on the road is one of the main staples of the new Garmin GDR 530 and GDR 560 and Garmin Drive 51 offerings. In addition to forward collision and lane departure warnings¹ that can help drivers avoid incidents, the new GDR car dashboard cameras also provide speed camera warnings³. 

What’s more, the models are outfitted for the very first time with the useful “Go” alert – a helpful camera-assisted feature that notifies distracted drivers when traffic ahead of their vehicle begins to move. For monitoring purposes, the new parking mode option (cable sold separately) allows the GDR 530 and GDR 560 to automatically start recording a parked vehicle’s surroundings if motion is detected while the engine is turned off.

The Garmin Drive 51 alerts the driver when there are upcoming dangerous curves, changes in speed limits, and when it detects the driver’s fatigue. Ease-of-use plays a major role for drivers with dash cams, due to the extensive amount of information a driver can experience on and off the road with advancements in technology and ever-increasing road distractions. As soon as the GDR 530 and GDR 560 are plugged in, they automatically start recording video without the need for time-consuming setups to start and stop video. With the introduction of built-in Wi-Fi^®, drivers can now wirelessly sync their videos to the free VIRB^® mobile app downloaded to a compatible smartphone to effortlessly share recordings with friends or even insurance agencies. In cases where close-up photography is needed, the snapshot feature allows drivers to easily remove the device from its mount to snap photos of vehicles or property damage.

Improvements to the Garmin Drive 51

With the Garmin Drive 51, drivers need not be on the constant lookout for parking spaces and information. The Garmin Drive 51 has been improved to display parking availability and pricing range of parking spaces in the vicinity, with colour-coding for on-street and public carpark spaces.

Road trips up north to neighbouring Malaysia is seamless with the preloaded Malaysia map with TripAdvisor® and Foursquare® information to offer travel options on hand. The Garmin Drive 51 is preloaded with ratings, price ranges and important information about hotels, dining options and places of interests (POI) so drivers can make well-informed impromptu pit stops while on a road trip. Planning for a trip is as easy with pre-set custom POIs.

For video storage, the new Garmin GDR 530 and GDR 560 and can accept memory cards⁴ (Class 10 required) of up to 64GB.

The Garmin GDR 530 and GDR 560 and Garmin Drive 51 has a suggested retail price of SGD 229, SGD 279 and SGD 179 respectively. The GDR 530 and GDR 560 will be available at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 and the PC Show 2017 from 1^st June to 4^th June 2017. The Garmin GDR 530 and GDR 560 will subsequently be available for purchase at all Garmin authorised resellers.
